A French-Canadian meat pie.
Ingredients
- 325 g All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tsp. Sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. Salt, divided
- 8 oz. Unsalted Butter, cold, cubed
- 6 Tbsp. Water, ice cold, plus more as needed
- 1 Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1 lb. Ground Beef
- 1 lb. Ground Pork
- 1 Onion, peeled, diced
- 10 oz. Russet Potato, diced
- 1/2 tsp. Ground Black Pepper
- 1/2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. Grated Nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. Ground Allspice
- 1/4 tsp. Clove, ground
- 1/4 tsp. Chile Powder
- 1 Bay Leaf
- 1 c. Beef Stock
- 1 Egg Yolk, lightly beaten
Made with all ground beef. This was fairly easy to make, even the crust, and is quite tasty, though it needed a more salt. The spices are quite subtle which I don't think is a bad thing, though I think I will spice it slightly more next time.
