If a recipe calls for plantain, assume it means to use ripe plantains. In the Dominican republic, Plátano refers to a 'plantain' instead of a 'banana', despite it's contradicting usage in some other Spanish speaking countries.
Description
A variety of banana larger than common bananas, with a starchier, less sweet flavor and firmer texture. Because of these properties, it is often treated as a vegetable.
