Description
Garlic is the pungent, aromatic bulb of a the plant Allium sativum. It is used widely in cuisines around the world. When raw, it has a sharp, somewhat spicy flavor, which mellows considerably when cooked. Each head of garlic consists of multiple cloves, each tightly covered in a papery sheath. In Buddhist temple cuisine, garlic is one of the five forbidden vegetables, considered a stimulant that hinders spiritual meditation.
