Cachaça

Disambiguation

Cachaça is often referred to as a type of rum, but likely predates the advent of rum and is produced from different ingredients.

Description

Cachaça is a distilled spirit, usually 80-100 proof, made from freshly-pressed and fermented sugar cane juice, originating in Brazil. It tends to have a raw, vegetal, fruity flavor and subtle sweetness. Cachaça is aged in wood barrels, some in bourbon or brandy barrels similar to rum. In other cases, it is aged in native wood barrels such as Brazil nut, zebrawood, amburana, balsam, cabreúva, tapinhoã, and teak, giving the spirit a unique flavor.
