Description

Allium monanthum is a spring vegetable with small bulbous roots and a mild onion flavor. It is found in the woodlands of eastern Asia, from northeaster China to northeastern Russia, and Japan. It is commonly used in Korean cuisine, but in In Buddhist temple cuisine, it is one of the five forbidden vegetables, considered a stimulant that hinders spiritual meditation.
