Description

A bulbous oval chile typically 2-3 inches in diameter, but varying greatly in size and shape. The resemble small bell peppers or roma tomatoes. The skin ripens to a dark red when mature, and the flesh is thick and pale red. Their spice level is moderate to hot, 30,000-100,000 SVU. This chile is grown in the Andes Mountains and are thought to be one of the oldest chile varieties still cultivated. They are a staple of Peruvian cuisine. The black seeds of this chile are also sometimes ground and used as a spice.
