Chiltepin Chile

Description

A variety of chile grown in Southwest Mexico, thought to be one of the oldest species of Capsicum. The small, red, berry-like chiles are very spicy (50k-100k SVU). They grow wild in parts of the United States, where they are dispersed by birds. Chiltepins are primarily foraged rather than cultivated, making this a relatively difficult ingredient to source, and are primarily available dried.
